Portuguese Mortgages

Hi Everyone,

Maybe someone can help out there.

1. I live in Switzerland (but UK national)
2. I have been a contractor for 5 years (Not self-employed or employed)
3. I want to buy a house in Portugal but need a very small mortgage (£25,000)
4. I want to get a Portuguese mortgage arranged through the Portuguese arm of a 'British' bank

So the question is, 'Does anyone know of any banks that would lend?'

Eager to hear the news.
Thanks, Roger

Hi Starina , you should be ok to ask for a mortgage here in Portugal . However you should rather try talking to a Portuguese bank . I would suggest either Millenium BCP or Banif .

In terms of borrowing just £25k this will not happen . As a non-resident you have to borrow a minimum of €50k .

Where in Portugal do you intend to purchase ? Maybe I have some suggestions for you :)

I used Caixa Geral de Depositos, what I liked is that they have offices in a lot of different countries. I can go to Berlin and speak German about all my banking needs, but it is still a Portuguese bank.

Portuguese banks are offering special rate mortgages to non-residents, and these are NOT available to Portuguese nationals.
I just organised a mortgage with Millennium BCP.
