Dear Group,

Here is an email I have sent to CNN, in order to get media coverage on
Dubai's propery/ financial crisis. As stated in my email sent to them,
I am a small investor who has invested in an off plan development and
the developer is unable to refund my money due to government policy.

If you are in a similar prediciment and wish to discuss this with CNN,
then feel free to contact me. I feel as though the more people that
speak out, the more of an impact it will have.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Dear John Defterios,

After watching your report on the Dubai Crisis, I feel as though it
did not illustrate all the problems facing Dubai, as it all seems to
be focused on Nakheel. I feel as though the following issues have to
be highlighted.

Firstly, there is $18 billion, being invested in off plan properties.
Due to government policy, the developer is unable to cancel the
projects. Thus, resulting in the developer unable to refund the
investors money. There are two main reasons for the government doing
this:1. if they cancel the development then it is a bad reflection on
Dubai and has further economic implications and 2. If the money is
returned to the investor then it is more than likely that they will
invest elsewhere. Therefore, leaving Dubai banks with no liquidity and
unable to function on a daily basis.

Personally, I am currently facing this situation, where I have
invested in off plan property and the developer is unable to refund
my money due to government policy. I do not see the justice in this
and feel as though this problem is on the rise and that this is just
the "tip of the iceburg".
As a small investor I have been trying to highlight this problem for
months and have had no success. There is a large amount of similar
complaints on the Dubai Expat Forum. Also there have been several
Court Cases regarding this problem, of which none of the investors
have been successful in regaining their money.

Therefore, by getting media coverage on this issue, it will higlight
this uprising problem, and have an impact on the governments current
policy. I hope that you will help me get coverage on this issue.

Thank you for your email. We were actually trying to cover the
situation that you described in your email but unfortunately could not
get anyone to talk to us on camera. This is an issue we would like to
return to and if you would be will to discuss on camera we could look
into covering this story.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best,

Victoria

I am old enough to remember what happened in London with Canary Wharf. Does anyone else remember that? Eventually, the developers went bust or let their properties at next to nothing, when more and more big companies seized the opportunity and moved in. Now Canary Wharf is a great commercial and residential development.
