While the bookmakers and financial markets seem certain that the Remain campaign will win, the polls suggest the referendum is literally on a knife edge. The good news is that we should begin to see the first results in just over 24 hours.

How did the polls and the financial markets get it all so wrong? Where does this leave the UK on the worldwide investment stage? Is London's position as the number one financial market in the world now under threat?

There is even crazy talk of London applying to join the European Union as an individual body which will never happen. How have we got to a situation when such talk is actually making the headlines? Surely we need to concentrate on the short to medium-term outlook for the UK and Europe?
