Some interesting info that I was not aware of until today is that if you own a car and are driving on your UK license and god forbid you have an accident and write your car off you will not be covered!!!

You need to have either an international licence or an Egyptian Licence. You can obtain the international licence in Cairo or take your test for an Egyptian Licence in Hurghada.

The test incorporates driving in a straight line and reversing back inbetween cones.

Also be able to drive in pitch darkness with no lights at 100mph while texting with the right hand and holding a conversation on another mobile. :driver:

International licenses can be obtained at UK general post offices for £18 which lasts for one year. Take all your details. Best to get one just before you leave so it lasts for your stay.

Lol. sounds about right Alan...
No such thing as checking mirrors either.

Sorry yes the international licence for those of you living in the UK, it will be much easier obtaining it there than this end. For those that are resident in Egypt go to Cairo or wait until your next visit home which may be quicker.

Another thing you should know about taking a driving test in Egypt is that the test also includes a theory test with multi-choice answers... in Arabic! So you have to rely on someone else to give you the correct question and translate the correct answer. If you fail the test you have to wait 3 months and then start your application all over again - so remember to bring your international licence and avoid all the above!
