Jeff Bridges slashes asking price on his California home

Two years ago Jeff Bridges listed his California home at 985 Hot Springs Road, Santa Barbara, California for a whopping $29.5 million. While it was common knowledge he was struggling to sell the property, two years later he has accepted an offer just under $16 million which is a significant reduction. It is unclear why he has been forced to reduce the price of his property which offers panoramic views across the Pacific Ocean and boasts neighbours such as Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres.

Jeff Bridges and his wife Susan bought the Tuscan style property from former owner musician Kenny Loggins back in 1994. While we appreciate that property prices will have increased significantly since 1994, a reduction of this size in the asking price is rather strange.

Inside Jeff Bridges’ former California home

First of all, this is a five bedroom, 5.5 bathroom property which covers more than 19 acres in total. As we touched on above, there are spectacular views over the Pacific Ocean and with the main house covering 9535 ft.² it is a sizeable development. This is a property which befits a celebrity of the stature of Jeff Bridges offering the ability to relax as well as entertain numerous guests.

Tuscan style property

The first thing you notice upon entering the house is the soaring ceilings and the large living, dining and family rooms. The entrance to the property is dominated by a lavish grand hallway which gives you a taste of what is to follow as you make your way around the home. There is an exquisite master suite together with three ensuite guest bedrooms which will certainly make your guests feel at home when they visit.

Kitchen and working areas

A kitchen with eat-in breakfast room, home office and a private tower study certainly make this home something different. The tower study is not only perfect for peace and quiet, and working, but it also opens up onto a stunning roof terrace with panoramic views right across the mountains and the ocean. It is not difficult to see why Jeff Bridges initially bought this property because it offers a great mixture of areas to socialise, relax and also enjoy some peace and quiet. If the worst came to the worst you could always move into the guest cottage!

Entertainment and leisure

Like so many celebrity properties this home comes with a detached music studio/home theatre as well as a swimming pool, decking area, outside kitchen and changing rooms. There is also a four car garage for those with a large family or collection of vehicles.

The swimming pool and decking area look out onto the beautiful gardens which have an array of sculptured fountains, walking paths and a fruit orchard. Heading towards the lower of the property you will see a secluded two bedroom cottage and caretakers unit as this property continues to throw up many surprises.

Realistic prices

It is difficult to understand why Jeff Bridges was forced to substantially reduce his initial asking price of two years ago and take a near $14 million hit. This is a beautiful property, with many homes, luxury facilities and a style and character which few properties can offer. Is demand for this type of property really so low?
