Matthew Perry buys a Los Angeles penthouse for $20 million

Only a few short weeks ago Matthew Perry placed his Hollywood Hills bachelor pad on the market for $13.5 million. We covered this listing just a few days ago and while the $13.5 million asking price may seem on the heavy side, this is a property you have to see to believe. However, we now hear that the man himself has just bought a new Los Angeles penthouse for a staggering $20 million. So, what do you get for $20 million in Los Angeles and how does this compare with his $13.5 million Hollywood Hills bachelor pad?

The basics

This penthouse, situated in Century City, Los Angeles, has 9318 ft.² of living space, four bedrooms and a massive eight bathrooms. Before we look at each room in isolation it is worth nothing the property has stunning views over downtown Los Angeles and floor-to-ceiling windows – which let in an amazing amount of light and make the property look even more spacious than it is.

The penthouse is situated in a 42-story luxury building known as “The Century” which is one of those much sought after celebrity boltholes. This is a relatively new building which has an array of amenities for the residents which include four acres of private garden, pilates and yoga studios, gym, wine cellar and a 75 foot swimming pool. The fact it also has its own bar lounges and full-service restaurant suggest this is really something special!

Living area

The living area is mostly white although the highly polished wooden floor contrasts well with the walls and furniture. As we touched on above, the penthouse is dominated by the floor-to-ceiling windows which give exquisite views over downtown Los Angeles. There are sofas and chairs aplenty, a very expensive table not to mention a piano in the corner. Perfect for entertaining?

Kitchen/dining room

The open plan kitchen is more like a kitchen/dining room which is again dominated by white furniture and white storage units. While we have the stereotypical kitchen island this is not your stereotypical kitchen with a breakfast bar come dining table, all the latest kitchen mod cons you could hope for and a small table for more formal gatherings. This open plan kitchen has more than enough space for a party never mind cooking!

Formal entertainment area

There is a room which is specifically focused on more formal gatherings with a large rectangular shaped dining table and the now familiar white leather chairs. Again, the floor-to-ceiling windows offer a very impressive view not to mention the jazzy chandelier. We would guess this is an area where deals are made and toasted.

Master bedroom

While there are four bedrooms and eight bathrooms in this property it is the curved expansive windows which really catch your eye. The panoramic views from this extraordinary large master bedroom suite is breathtaking and the furniture fits in perfectly. As we move around the property it is a little easier to understand why it had a $20 million pricetag.

Real estate portfolio

Matthew Perry has expanded his real estate portfolio which now contains his so far unsold Hollywood Hills mansion, valued at $13.5 million, a $12 million Malibu beach property and his new $20 million Los Angeles penthouse. It is worth noting that his Hollywood Hills property was acquired for a knock down $8.5 million back in 2011 and is today seemingly valued at $13.5 million. Not a bad return if you can get it!
