Harry Connick Jr selling Connecticut mansion for $7.5 million

Best-known as a musician, actor and television host, Harry Connick Jr has placed his family’s New Canaan home on the market for $7.5 million. The property itself is situated at 671 W. Road, New Canaan, Connecticut and boasts not only 4.61 acres but also living space of 11,598 ft.². The property has seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms and while it was acquired for just $1,537,500 back in 1998, there have been significant additions to the property. So, what kind of property does Harry Connick Jr live in?

A tour of Harry Connick Jr’s home

Those who do their research on the property will be aware it was originally a 1890s dairy farm which was rebuilt. It now comes with an antique barn, cottage, swimming pool and pool house. The fact it is perched high on a hill ensures there is more than enough natural light sweeping through the property and opening up every room. Great detail has been given to hand selected materials for the chestnut beams and the striking stone floors. In many ways this is old world meets new world without taking away any of the character from the old dairy farm – a style many celebrity properties fail to deliver.

First impressions

The first thing which hits you is the striking wooden door which contrasts perfectly with the white outside walls, stone steps, trees and the carefully manicured shrubbery. As you might suspect with a property boasting 4.61 acres there are reams of lawns, shrubbery, dry stone walls, trees all of which are perfectly maintained.

Inside the property

Once you move into the property you will see the large entrance foyer with stone clad flooring which connects you to an array of open plan rooms and a sweeping staircase to the second floor. Throughout the property there are many exposed beams which give character and also work perfectly with the wooden floor. As you would expect with a property of this size, there is an array of living rooms and areas to relax.

Kitchen

The kitchen is like something from the old world on the surface but obviously contains the latest in kitchen equipment. The distressed wooden floor look goes perfectly with the old style kitchen furniture and complements the open fireplace to perfection. The kitchen itself is very spacious, with the traditional kitchen island, as well as a relaxation area and what is that sat in the corner, a piano!

Open plan

As we touched on above, much of the property is open plan and with French doors and French windows aplenty there is more than enough natural light. The majority of the furniture in the living rooms and kitchen area is a delicate shade of cream which seems to go well with the wooden floor, wooden tables and chairs.

Dining area

It is amazing how the family have managed to breathe new life into this property. There is perfectly illustrated by the formal dining area which takes in a beautiful aged wooden table, distressed wooden floor look and French doors opening onto a patio area. In some ways it is difficult to put into words how delicately designed and well-structured this property is.

Lay back and relax

If you are looking for timeout and somewhere to relax check out the exquisite living room with stone built fireplace and chimney breast, old style furniture and a beautiful view over the gardens. There is also a much darker looking library which again contains an array of distressed look furniture and a view of the cottage from the library window.

Elsewhere we have an array of four poster beds, ensuite bathrooms decorated in an old world style and gardens as far as the eyes can see. The home of Harry Connick Jr is available for $7.5m – a snip at the price?
