Singer Matt Bellamy selling his four-bedroom Italian lakeside penthouse

Muse singer Matt Bellamy has decided to list his four-bedroom penthouse in Moltrasio, a village on the banks of Lake Como. The property is for sale at £1.5 million and comes with its own recording studio in which the band recorded their 2011 award-winning album Resistance. If that is not a great selling point then consider this, the villa (called Erker Hocevar) was where Italian composer Vincenzo Bellini wrote La Straniera as far back as the 1800s. So, you are not just buying a beautiful property but you are buying some beautiful music history!

Lake Como

The original building was built back in 1829 and the penthouse takes up two floors towards the top of the building. This viewpoint offers a sensational view over Lake Como which is an exceptional part of the world. The property itself is only a hop skip and a jump from the cafes, bars and restaurants of the village and there is a ferry dock for those looking for a tour around the lake.

Lake Como has been a magnet to the rich and famous since George Clooney bought a property in 2002. Names such as Madonna, Richard Branson and Donatella Versace have owned or still own properties around Lake Como – it is not difficult to see why.

Entry-level

Natural light, spectacular views of the lake and a feature fireplace all await you in the large living/gathering room on the first floor. The sitting room is interconnected to the large family kitchen by two sets of stunning French doors which open up onto the lake view terrace. You will immediately notice that the kitchen has been redeveloped to the highest standards taking in all of the mod cons you would ever need. Whether you have a formal, informal or perhaps a family occasion, this is the perfect setting.

Upper-level

The master bedroom takes in a stunning look over Lake Como and there is also a Jacuzzi bathroom where you can relax. We can only imagine what it must be like to wake up in the morning with stunning views over Lake Como, your own ensuite bathroom and Jacuzzi. There are also an additional two guest bedrooms which are decorated to the highest standards, spacious and again with excellent views of the area.

Communal services

The estate has an array of communal services such as a 1.25 acre communal garden designed in classic Italian style, a deconsecrated chapel, a bridge to one of the few lakeside swimming pools and a fountain. In many ways this estate offers the best of both worlds; privacy and solitude as well as communal services where you can mix with your neighbours. There is also the option to acquire a single parking space, internal double garage or even a boat mooring for those who like the water.

We have tried to give you a glimpse into this exquisite property which is located in one of the most beautiful areas of the world. When you bear in mind some of the outrageous valuations celebrities place upon their properties, a £1.5 million asking price seems very fair indeed.
