Wooden Deck

Hi,
We were planning on building a wooden deck around our house in Portugal.
We were told that you don't need any building permission to do that, but what we don't know is if we can build directly on the property line.
It's a country side house with just fields around us, no buildings.
Can anyone help us answer that?

Without actually knowing all the details, usually you can place wood, as long as no cement is used.

the rules are alot more relaxed in Portugal then they are in the UK, so i have a feeling it wont be a problem. we built a small patio area in our garden with out planning permission.

My experience is that don't ask the question! As soon as you do the answer is nearly always no and then you may have raised a flag. There are numerous buildings, extensions etc totally illegally built in Portugal because of the stifling unreasonable bureaucracy.
If it's just decking!!
