Historically the Bank of England has been very much on the ball with regards to UK base rates, offering guidance to the financial markets. However, Mark Carney has certainly blotted his copy book of late with an array of suggestions that UK base rates would rise sooner rather than later. This forecast has been revised significantly over recent weeks with a suggestion that base rates could even fall in the short term.

If the markets can't trust forecasts from the Bank of England, where should they look for guidance?
