Tax on Rental Income Query

Can anyone give me some advice please. I am about to enter into a long term rental on my property in Portugal. I need any advice on declaring this income ie is it better to declare here in the UK (I am a lower rate taxpayer) or declare it in Portugal (I do not live there).

Secondly am I better to have my rental paid in sterling or euros. Sterling would seem the preference and it is easier to manager.
