Should I choose an interest only mortgage or a repayment mortgage?

I am struggling to get on the property ladder but if I am unable to get a mortgage should I choose an interest only mortgage or a repayment mortgage? I'm tempted to go for a repayment mortgage with interest rates at low levels.

If interest rates were to remain low for a relatively long period of time then a repayment mortgage would be interesting. The quicker you can pay down the capital borrowed the less interest paid in the future.
