any further updates on Saras Residence.. This was looking a really nice build but had numerous delays seemingly taking forever to complete. Last time I saw this, the glaizing at the front had gone in and was looking rather neat.

Hi, going by the developers website (Orbit),its all finished now. Here's a link to their website page with up to date information and photos. Looks like similar quality internal finish as per their other projects in Sahl Hasheesh, info on which is also on the website.

The building and the gardens are now complete; Sara's is the Head Office for Orbit Alliance who are the constuctors of El Andalous, Palm Beach Piazza in Sahl Hasheesh and also of Samra Bay in Hurghada. Finishing in Sara's is to a high standard' almost identical to El Andalous in Sahl, right down to the Hydrospa Shower cubicles in every bathroom.

For anyone looking for a finished building in Central Hurghada, with plenty of space and access to Sahl Hasheesh beaches and Samra Bay, Sara's takes some beating.

Samra Bay is a new resort by the same Developer (Orbit) and is about 4 kms away in the Intercontinental District of Hurghada. It is a new frontline beach resort and will be completed in approx two years from now.

Sahl Hasheesh is a huge resort complex on 41,000 m2 of land with 13 kms of private beach frontage and is 18 kms South of Hurghada and the beaches are already in use. It is probably the most significant resort development in Europe and the Middle East. Click on the following link for more details of Sahl Hasheesh:

Also close to Sara's is the Elysee Dream Beach which is privately run and you pay an entrance fee to get in of around 25 EL per day (I think). There is a bar, nice sunbeds aand a restaurant and the beach is very clean. They also have a Health Club.

Sahl Hasheesh is stunning; the land rises from sea level to 100m above and the Master plan shows how water is pumped from the sea to the highest level and then flows back to the sea via a system of moving waterways (canals) to provide a transportation system around the resort either by boat or by the Monorail which will link the various parts, or on foot or by Golf buggy.

There will be a world class marina, now being built by the Trump organisation, (Trump Serrenia),at least 22 five and seven star hotels, a 10 km esplanade so everyone can see the sea, water parks, 11 eighteen hole championship golf courses, a water sports lake on the upper level and many more facilities. There is already a sunken city for Divers, a pier for day boats and a town centre with 300 shops bars and restaurants facing the main public beach. Shortly the casino will open and a multi-screen cinema. The central piazza is the centre piece of the resort and will be a meeting place for guests arriving with live entertainment, fountains and waterfalls, coffee shops and Craft markets.

Sahl Hasheesh has its own reef, which protects the bay when weather at sea is rough, and is a great place for diving and sometimes for just watching the dolphins in the bay.

The Turkish resort of Belek has got that market nailed, 5 star all inclusive hotels, superb established courses, and all closer to the rest of europe than Egypt. In future cost of access is going to be paramount & airfares aren't getting cheaper. Even BA with their outrageous fares are now charging extra for the carriage of golf clubs & other sports equipment. As for 7 star hotels, well, plenty of empty rooms in Dubai !.

BUT TURKEY WILL NEVER HAVE THE MARINE-LIFE AND CORAL-REEFS THIS INDUSTRY IS BEING BUILT UPON and the reason we promote tourism.

It has always been recognised that Turkey is value for money. Egypt tries to be, but divers will tell you "there is no place like it outside the Great Barrier Reef and within 5 hours air travel from Europe."

Alan, Absolutely right. The Red Sea is famed for its' diving; that is why it shouldn't waste money trying to compete in areas where it can't. Do divers care about 7 star hotels ?. I think not.

Hi Lysos Sahl Hasheesh has been ten years in the making; it is well past the point of no return and is already cashflow positive for ERC. The first three golf courses are already seeded and will be operational within 6 months; the others will follow.

Egypt is crying out for these facilities and the Government are keen to develop Sahl Hasheesh as an International golfing destination.

Have you visited? If you come to Egypt you will begin to realise the enormity of this project.

Hi Lysos.
Without getting ahead of ourselves, (as Egyptians often do but invariable don't deliver) you are perfectly correct. Turkey has the infrastructure to cater for demand in tourism, especially with its history and now golfing tourism, much the way Dubai commands respect for their golf courses, competitions etc.

Turkey is a far less expensive location. I promote some luxurious projects there and agree with all your comments....
Dubai is false. If I want to see Disneyland I would go to the States. If I wish to ski I would go to the Alps. If I want to scuba-dive regularly or snorkel in year-round warm waters, I would visit the Red Sea.

Egypt has other positives and can always create its infrastructure and services over time (if only I could get them to finish things). But I'm sorry to say Dubai, the Gulf States, Mediterranean and Aegean countries will never have or produce the magnificence that the Red Sea coastal marine-life has to offer.

Scuba enthusiasts are not always backpackers. It is a sport, much like golf that satisfies the rich and the less rich and we build accordingly. 7 Star Hotels or tents, we aim to satisfy every requirement that families and sporting personalities wish for...... But this is Egypt. :damnmate: The sands of time and an Arab mindset !!!

Hi Alan,

Totally agree with your comments ref. Dubaisney. Like you I suspect most people will travel to ski resorts for skiing, diving resorts for diving etc. i.e. the 'real' thing. Golfers won't go to Dubai on grounds of cost and the artificiality of the courses. I recently watched bits of the European (?) tour in Abu Dhabi & Qatar (on TV, I might add !) where the courses are similar and it was laughable; the 'rough' there was better than the greens on my local course, and even players coming in at 10 under weren't making the cut.

As I said, Egypt should concentrate on playing to its' strengths, and whilst us oldies like our home comforts, as long as the sun is shining 4 & 5 star hotels are just fine. 7 star is for the people who don't actually pay to stay in them, e.g. chav footballers !.

What strengths are you refering to my friend?
Apart from what the Pharaohs left them and the scuba-diving industry we brought to them and what we taught them about tourism, they have few skills of their own. They pretend to listen and learn but then do it their way.... Wrongly, so they can charge for doing it again.

I mainly market projects with European backing. It's the naive "chavs" and "cheapies" that allow bad practices to flourish. I've 24years experience in the Red Sea and I'm sure Sahl Hasheesh will be the best location for our clientelle.... In time.

Lysos you may be right about Turkey as a golfing destination right now but as we all know you cannot prevent change. Some very big investors indeed have decided to make Egypt an International golfing destination and invested billions in making it happen; time will tell but don't write us off just yet! The weather is perfect for most of the year and we have the infrastructure in place to overcome the water problems. We get more water shortages in Britain that the new resort areas in Egypt get.

Hi Peter,

Yes, I am a big fan of Turkey, both as an historian and a bad golfer !. I do think that the key is travel. I'm sure that Egypt can, in time, produce the goods, so to speak, but if a golf 'package' to the Red Sea is going to cost me, say, £50 more & take an hour longer to get there, then Turkey gets my vote. Just back actually, courses in superb condition and the all inclusive package in a 5 star hotel was faultless - apart from the 4lbs in wait I gained !.

lets open up a thread about golf in egypt...and how it compares.

at present we have the steigenberger course in el gouna..ancients sands course will be there in 2/3 years as well. Im hesitant to put a date on the courses on sahl..as of course they are a commercial venture and will not open or operate until they become commercially viable, ..also there is a course at makadi. That will make 6 courses within half an hour of each other which will all be ready in 3 years. I have no idea how much 18 holes costs in Turkey, here at El Gouna its €75 a round I think, and residents get discount of course, and it is pay and play. I remember when we were selling Bodrum ( 3 years ago) there was no golf courses in the area at all, and now Turkey is a golfing destination? I can never see Egypt courses being challenging, but I do see them being attractive to fair weather golfers. Doesn't Turkey get cold and wet in Winter? I love some parts of Turkey, particularly Akyaka which is totally unspoiled, but I am struggling to see it as a golfing mecca because Spain will always rule for golf. Im also thinking golf is not so popular anymore these days, what with the effect of the Great Crunch on corporate golf, and also Tiger Woods behaviour may put a stop on golf widows letting their men go of on tour! I wish they would turn just one of the golf courses on Sahl Hasheesh into a park, with an arboretum, somewhere where I could walk the dog and smell the flowers. Im sure it would get more visitors in a day than the golf course would, as such an environment would be a major attraction. I would happily pay 10€ to visit such a place. I reckon the income generated could be quite high, whilst benefitting the environment. With such a park Sahl could genuinely call itself an oasis in the desert.
