Rental tax

Hi, could anyone give an answer on the following.

We rent several properties in the Lisbon area were we pay the full rent to a private landlord or a company. Now we have been told that we should deduct 16.5% from this rent and forward this deducted sum directly to the tax office. I find it hard to believe that we should act as a tax collector for the Portuguese governement. Could anyone tell me if this is true and possibly give some reference to the article in the law were this is stated. Thanks.

If you are a Lda company, you have to retain from the rent a % amount and pay this amount to tax office, If you are a private individual you do not have to do, I advise you to see your portuguese accounter. Regards
