Looking at buying in Majorca as it is such a beautiful island. Do you get value for money ? or are they expensive ?

Compared with the Costa Blanca, Mallorca is expensive!
Unless you want to live specifically on that island, and away from cities, check out other areas first.
It is not only the property (rental and purchase),that are much cheaper on the mainland.

In theory the Spanish real estate market should be lower than it is at the moment but the added incentive of residency visas for those looking towards the higher end of the market has had an impact. I was surprised to see that the likes of Majorca seem to have performed better-than-expected as being a major tourist area I would have expected expats to repatriate their funds and return to their former homelands when the troubles hit home?

Did this occur?

Mallorca's limited area (3,640km2),strict building laws and vast amount of protected natural land means property prices on the island haven't dropped as much as in other parts of Spain. The holiday rentals market is also pretty strong, and buying to let has become a viable option. Hope that helps!
