There was more panic on the UK high street this morning with the announcement that Bournemouth-based Beales department store has gone into administration. This is yet another body blow for the UK high street even if there are hopes than a trimmed down smaller version of the company could emerge from administration. Where does this leave the UK high street?

What must this be doing to the asset value of (previously) huge property companies who focused on high street stores?

Property investors are stuck in a very difficult situation, they refuse rent reductions and lose tenants (like Beales) or the give in to a reduction and every other teneant asks for one and they see a reduction in their cash flow and value of assets. Rock and a hard place springs to mind.
