Loan from Coutts: £1M+ property interview

    Has anyone applied for a high value loan (£1M+) from Coutts. Due to our unique financial situation-foreign income etc, our mortgage advisor has scheduled a meeting/our interview with a coutts banker. Any tips on what Coutts bankers are looking for during these interviews, what do they check for successful applicants and how can we make our case stronger?

    There are a number of factors to consider. They will:-
    • Hopefully take account of your world wide income - something high street banks shy away from
    • The same with global assets
    • Has the subject of AUM (assets under management) been mentioned yet
    Private banks are much more flexible than their high street counterparts.

    I tend to find that private banks are best suited to offer bespoke mortgages as they are not restricted like their high street counterparts.

    Since the 2008 US mortgage crisis we have seen high street banks reducing their risk profile and creating a gap in the market that private banks such as Coutts are only too happy to fill.
