Is this too little too late or would a £75 billion investment in council housing help take pressure off the private rental market?

As soon as this was announced, as part of a wider package, it was describe as "not credible" by the independent IFS. More promises of jam tomorrow!

All governments in the past were well aware of the lack of new housing in the UK and chose to do nothing. Now all of a sudden they want our vote and they are prepared to throw billions at it. Our money by the way, taxpayers money, even thought they talk like they are doing us a favour :)

More politicians promising more expenditure (our money) in the hope of getting us to vote for them. What a bizarre affair politics is!

There arent enough workers to do that kind of building in the short to medium term. Why do politicians seem to find their cheque books when they are after our votes (well taxpayer cheque books to be more accurate)?

I struggle to understand why there has not been huge investment in training skilled workers in the construction industry as there has been a skills shortage for decades. The arguement about cheap labour from overseas is now a non-starter because of the minimum wage. So why has the investment not been forthcoming?

The truth is that governments going back to the 1980s have promised but failed to deliver on apprenterships. They have finally been found out!
