It is been confirmed today that Edinburgh Council is looking to raise millions of pounds in additional funding by introducing a tourist tax on Edinburgh hotels. While we await the details, it looks as though a “tourist tax” of between £1 and £4 per night stay will be added to the cost of hotel accommodation.
Surely this will have an impact on hotel investment? If this is passed in Edinburgh, and apparently the Scottish government is backing the move, how long before other councils replicate it?
