alright well, i dont know anything for sure, my assumption is from the fact that they will move the plant because keeping it here will eventually kill this place off. so I think they will move it but when is the question?? its not gonna be anytime soon thats for sure. as for springs i have been there sooo many times. and as far as I could tell it is far from Emirates road. Its much closer to Shk. zayed road rather than emirates road. I used to live on Shk. zayed road and went there several times and i dnt think its that close to Emirates road. but neway as u said this aint the discussion, and about the smell in the rest of dubai, I havent experienced that myself but its defenitly possible, since they dont actually have a sweage network and you might have noticed that those Orange trucks never stop going and coming from the Sweage plant, and thats bcoz they depend on those trucks to carry the **** from all over dubai. and thats not as effecient obviously. which could be the reason u smell **** in different parts of dubai (More **** is being dumped into the sewers than the **** being pulled up!).

For me now i dnt care anymore.......coz I FINALLY moved out of International City!! I went to Bur-Dubai. its better by all means down here (well except the money part :( )God help the rest of u that are still stuck in there!!.

Its been just two months when finally i survived from delaying dates of handover and suffered for almost a year long delay due to unaccountable real estate Gods.

And than I realized how stinking this place turns into at night time. The whole international city stinks at night time when sewerage plant opens its mouth and takes a burp .

Rising rents and low supply of accommodations has really forced people to live by the $hit hole ?

I am just shocked at Nakheel's amazing achievement by building and selling out huge residential area right beside sewerage plant and people are actually living there . Nobody is doing anything . The whole international city is filled with stench , no cluster is saved , if u are not smelling bad smell at night time in your cluster , say thanks to wind.

I would request everyone to send email to 7 days (your7days_at_7days*ae) , khaleejtimes (www*khaleejtimes*com/contactus.asp) , gulfnews (gulfnews*com/aboutus/contact/letter_to_editor.html ) and emiratestoday (letters_at_emiratestodayonline*com ) to mention the issue . International city has started populating , people are moving in , this is going to become a huge issue very soon .

Just pass by at night time after 10 in international city , you will understand what people are going thru .

They will never shut the plant and why should they?
The plant is going to pump more and more until we get very upset and Dubai is over.
That’s why IC is a “cheap” area and if you don’t like it you have to pay double.
Do you know any other place in the world where you pay a 1000$ per month to stay in a studio next to a sewage plant?
What is going to happen?
As the inflation is building up and more people are considering leaving the Emirates for ever will be a lot of empty buildings with less population and of course less smell(less people).
Next year will be the beginning to the end and …………. less smell

Dubai to get new Dh1.5b sewage treatment plant
By a staff reporter

2 April 2007

DUBAI — Dubai Municipality will build a new sewage treatment plant in Jebel Ali at a cost of Dh1.5 billion in cooperation with two private companies, Al Ahmadiah-Aktor LLC and Greek contractor Aktor SA.
According to officials, the decision follows the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to provide the city with modern infrastructure and ensure the implementation of the Dubai Strategic Plan.
The private companies will help the municipality to construct the plant, specialising in waste water treatment, with a total capacity of 300,000 cubic metres per day.
The contract for the plant was signed during a ceremony attended by Shaikh Hashr bin Maktoum Al Maktoum, Director of the Dubai Information Department, Hussain Nasser Lootah, Acting Director General of the Dubai Municipality, and Dimitris Kallitsantsis, Managing Director, Aktor.
Lootah said the contract constitutes the first phase of the new Jebel Ali Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) Project which has a projected capacity of 1.1 million cubic metres per day. This capacity will be built up over a number of phases which will be programmed to suit the growth in wastewater flows. The new plant is to be built on a 675 hectare desert site located in the south-east of the Jebel Ali Free Zone.
“This contract follows a comprehensive, two-year review of wastewater treatment technology and process design undertaken by the global environmental consultant MWH on behalf of the Drainage & Irrigation Department,” said Lootah.
He noted that the main objective of the project is to provide Dubai with the best sustainable, environmental and economical wastewater and sludge treatment solution to supplement the existing treatment plant at Al Awir in meeting present and future treatment requirements.

yes, it will be there, the new waste plant, I told you it is long time on the master plant of Jebel Ali,

but it has nothing to do with the existing one, the one right next to us, because this one will keep on functioning regardless of the Jebel Ali plant.

There is a lot of construction going on, especially in the side of Jebel Ali, so the waste plant is necesary thing there.

Our beloved sewagefactory will NOT get less SH..T because of that :))

i guess these developers choose to build next to sewage plants etc because the land cost a penny and nobody else will buy
Suspect your correct - wonder if they gave the agents big commissions to shift - who I would quess told anybody who was interested that there were plans to close the plant.

Situation normal.

I am living in International City Spain Cluster. No smell at all I think its a great place to live.
May I know when you moved in please?
I have a friend just across the road in Spanish cluster, she says it doesn't smell at all, and this is across the road! Well, what I say is to wait a little. There was rearly any smell for the last three months, and I had a great time at my Persian cluster too...
Lately, smell actually happened couple of times..
I just suggest you wait till when it's hotter, then it will become unbearable and everywhere - please read earlier posts...

They gave us a break during winter... it doesn't mean the question is finished...

I am keen to talk to you anyone find to find out or discuss problems that may be round your corner out if that Homes Dubai/International outfit have treated you with the same contempt I have'nt enjoyed from them. I bought an apartment in IC 19 Morocco in August 2005 (now paid in ful for 13 months),along with nearly 2,500 eurs for the service agreement. However they have now told me now that this is a large studio not a one bed that I booked and paid that rate and should be happy with that as it is nearly the same size, oh and no en-suite oh and smaller windows oh and dont expect to rent it for the same amount etc etc etc etc. You can imagine my response. I have contacted the building owners who are surprisingly helpful.
If this sounds familar to any one let me know. Or if anyone wants to swap their one bedroom apt for "a large studio" let me know. HomesDubai would probably make this comment as a serious question !!!!

why they chose International City?

It is always like this in life that if you know the reason and what really is happening, you can predict future better. Isn't it? Well as others have written Nakheel, the most reliable! developer in Dubai, chose this extra cheap lot to build a city special for expatriates. Why? since expatriates come from different countries, don't know each other to form a group, don't stay in Dubai for a long period of time normally, and they are afraid of protesting and putting their names somewhere to claim and lose their Visa. As simple as that! any of us who gets a chance, runs away from this stinky place and do not care about others. There is not even any management for every building or even a get together for the residents of each building to get to know each other and discus about the issues. Why? Isn't it a very detailed policy to keep here alive for Nakheel? And after selling out the whole apartments, Nakheel will just run away and leaves IC owners with its problems. So many lies about moving out the sewage plant or changing it! These lies are along with the work on the green area of IC are just for selling the new apartments and nothing else. You have heard that Nakheel is launching its new building right in front of the sewage plant? and the prices are still the same as Jumairah Village!!! Funny? yeah? Why? Since Nakheel does not want to admit the rumors against IC and that it stinks. Imagine you come to purchase an apartment in IC and visit the place during the day and early evening and see what? you just see the parking lots are so full and people are actually living here. Then you think the ones who talk about the smelly nights simply exaggerate! You go and you purchase the nice apartment in IC happily!
I am living in IC and it really stinks. Not every night, though. However, every night that it stinks makes my life so miserable :(. Breathing is really difficult and I pray for the smell to be finished. Last night was bad and smelly and it continued even in the morning. Tonight is unbearable. What am I going to do? Leave this ****ty country, which is full of lies, to its people who deserve and come back to my home country as soon as I am done here. God bless you!

Dubai smells
Dubai is dirty (too much construction).
The traffic is enormous
The prices are ridicules
The taxes (yes taxes - for visas, opening business, rents, road charges, fines, airlines) are well above the normal imagination.

Sounds bad, but all of us or most of us are still in Dubai – why?
Because we are machines and the machine needs oil and UAE has oil.

So don’t complain about the smelling and keep on working 10 hours a day 7 days a week

Hi All,

Now its not just the smell. Many residents would agree with me, its the trucks that come to dump this $@*t. I think they queue up for hrs together to wait for their turn to dump and I dont know, for some odd reasons they start honking. I know its a bit far from IC and sound doesn't carry as much as smell, but at times it can be very annoying. There are so many nights, we are woken up by these crazy truck drivers honking to glory. Its at times at 12 midnight or even at 3 in the morning.

I would be quite glad to bring this up to the concerned authorities, if only someone can tell me where or whom to complain this to.
