Does the UK need more council housing?

There is no doubt that the right to buy scheme, which began in the 1980s, ignited the UK homeownership market but is a time to rebuild council housing stock?

Everything goes in cycles - they will build housing stock up at a cost to tax payers then eventually they will sell it off again and the whole process starts again. It is all so predictable!

The simple answer is yes! We need a bit of competition for the private landlord sector :)

It was a Tory and Labour issue, selling off council houses on the cheap. Buying votes or is that just me being cynical ;)

Whether parties agree or disagree with the right to buy scheme, they all took part until just a few months ago. Surely we can all agree this scheme kick started the UK home ownership boom?
