Do you favour property over traditional investment markets?

There are many who now say property investment is their pension fund of the future. However, do you put property investment above more traditional investment markets such as stocks and shares? I would be very interested to hear the opinions of those who have invested across a wide range of different investment markets.

In many ways this is connected to the recent comments by the Bank of England’s chief economist suggesting that property investment is, in the eyes of many people, a better long-term bet than pension funds. While pension funds are tax efficient in general the authorities keep bringing in different restrictions and new taxes to bolster their own budgets. For many people the pension fund regulations of today are not what they signed up to many years ago. Who can blame them for looking towards property investment in its most vanilla form?
