Converting shops into flats, is this the way forward?

The impact of the Internet has changed the way in which we shop and left many high streets not only in the UK, but around the world, in disarray. Have you ever looked at converting empty shops into flats? I hear there are various tax incentives offered by local authorities? Is this a viable investment strategy going forward?

Right time, right place at the right price, there is no doubt that investment in old retail properties can prove to be extremely lucrative when converting to living premises. However, you do have to ask yourself why that particular high street is failing? Is the area itself failing and would this impact demand for property in the region?

The key is to find areas where retail shops have been struggling but the local economy is doing well. Hight streets were once a reflection of the local economy but not any more with the introduction of the internet and the ability to shop 24/7 online.
