Buying property from a dissolved home assocation (illinois)

I hate to start a conversation out with the classic: "Long story short", but this is what I'm going to do.
Long story short, I live on a small lake with about 45 homes on it in the state of Illinois. Sometime in the 1980's or 1990's the home owners association was completely dissolved. All the outlots were sold off to private citizens except one lot, which is unfortunately the dam.
According to the GIS report that property is owned by the association since 1982, but there is no association to buy it from.
Has anyone run across this type of situation? How can someone buy the property from an entity that physically doesn't exist?
