The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has recently released a raft of information regarding changes in the UK property market in recent times. We will cover some of the information in forthcoming articles but there is a very interesting report on the state of the UK rental market and a comparison between London/South of England

When you bear in mind the difference in rental yields between the North of England and London/the South it is surprising to see so few investors looking beyond London and the South of England. Short-term capital gains are obviously very attractive but property investment is a long-term game and double-digit rental yields are surely opportunities too good to turn down?

I'm always intrigued. Why do some investors have an obsession with capital gains when a double-digit rental yield means that you could pay off the whole cost of your property within 10 years. Now is the time to start building up a long-term buy to let portfolio.
