    I would have to agree with samantha about being eco-friendly. In my house, our yard is surrounded by a few trees and lots of small plants. I am very particular about the correct way of handling the garbage. Aside from that, we follow rules with regards to keeping the environment safe and clean.

    I usually check the property 2-3 times. Aside from checking out the entire property very carefully, I tend to look around the neighborhood as well. For me, this is very important.

    I would suggest using neutral colors as well. Creams and other light colors such as light blue, green or yellow would be great. That way, any type of person won't find it clashing with his/her personality.

    Like what Ron0 said, you need to hire a really good and honest contractor. I think most problems arise when they have hired someone not taking the job seriously. Do some research too. Ask people around whether the land where you will build is a good residential place.
