    Yep the Rugby World Cup did very little for the New Zealand in the same regard. Tourism is up slightly after the event which was nice, but the long term benefits are minimal.

    It been a while since I posted here and have found this comment above. Obviously things have moved on since October last year. The figure required to rebuild Christchurch is now between 25 - 30 billion dollars. Let the good times begin.

    If you want to buy at the bottom of the market then New Zealand is a good place to buy. The problem is for those capital growth lovers, who knows how long it is going to take for the market to gain some real traction.

    February 2011 is here and it's just all bad news for houseing in the UK. I cannot see a recovery in the housing market until the end of 2012/13. Let's hope the Olympics can bring the feel good factor to the economy.

    With no real direction to point to for the UK's (and Europe's) recovery I cannot see the housing market recovering any time soon. I fear there is more pain to come yet.

    Are you investing from offshore or living in the country you are investing in? For me safety and freedom are important and in places not being a local is easily realised. If it's offshore investing - nock your socks off - just be aware of local property ownership rules. :)

    Letting Agent vs Private Landlord?

    Using an agent also offers you as the landlord better potection should things turn nasty, equally it is better for the tenants as a resonable standard is required from the rental property and it's the agents responsablity to keep you honest. ;)

    Prices will come down as demand for property lessens due to its high price. No matter what happens it is the market that sets property prices.
