    Is cpf necessary?

Many thanks, Debzor. Would this way result in a completely new CPF number and would this affect anything I have already linked to the old number? Like my cell phone and, more importantly, my house purchase. Regards, Dave.

    Is cpf necessary?

Quick question (hopefully!) about the CPF. I have mine which I applied for from the UK Brazilian consulate - so initially only had the number I got off the Fazenda website (they sent a link to get it),i.e. nothing in writing. This has served me well, but someone said I could download a document...

Easiest way to get a CPF from abroad

I eventually got mine through the consular route, but it only arrived two weeks after I came to Brazil, which was 12 weeks after I applied (they say ittakes 8!). Interestingly though when I finally (long story concerning missing documents!) applied for a volunteer visa they also said it would...

    Opening a bank account

Thanks for this, JPD. I am still waiting for the final piece of paperwork from the charity ("didn't know we needed this as no-one told us"! It should have followed automatically from the Prefeitura but they forgot to pass it on!),so have until the end of May before my 6 months are up. Just hope...

    Visa application from within Brazil?

Thanks, JMB. I was going to get my daughter to Fedex all the paperwork to me, which includes all the original documentation, but not authenticated copies! The only one they authenticated was the copy of my passport, which the Embassy then refused to accept when my daughter went! Am I right in...

    Visa application from within Brazil?

Oi a tudos! I wonder if anyone knows anything about this - is it possible to submit a visa application while you are already in Brazil? And if so, where? I tried to apply before I left but the organisation (voluntary so I have to do it myself!) sent poor copies originally which the consulate...

    Opening a bank account

Thank you all for the responses here. I am actually in the process of applying for a two-year Volunteer visa, working for a small charity (for nothing!),and hope to survive on a small pension annuity I have from the UK. To that end I am buying a house to live in (so I don't have monthly rent...

    Opening a bank account

Oi Matida, Many thanks for this. I arrive in Salvador next Tuesday (24th) and am heading straight into the Chapada Diamantina. My plan is to stay two months as a tourist, and by then my volunteer visa should be through. My nephew lives in Salvador and banks with Itau so I will see how he...

    Opening a bank account

It appears that I would have to be an UK HSBC Premier customer to get reciprocal banking in Brazil - but as the transaction costs are the same as for standard customers, and Premier banking is open (free of charge) to those with investments with them of over £50,000 or with an annual income...

    Visa advice question

Thanks for this - I had heard that this was the case, but it is the application process I am more worried about as it states that this has to be in person at the Brazilian Consulate, and I assume in your home country. My nephew was living in Barcelona when he started his application process...

    Visa advice question

Thanks, Debzor! I have already been waiting 10 weeks for my CPF (they say 8 weeks) and tracking it says the application (handed in personally in London) has not arrived in Brazil. Now why am I surprised? Dave.

    Visa advice question

Oi a todos! I am trying to get a volunteer visa (Vitem1) as I have offered my services for two years to a charity in Bahia. I am (still) waiting for the relevant paperwork from the charity (deed of incorporation, declaration of legal status, etc.) which I had hoped to have before I left the UK...

Easiest way to get a CPF from abroad

Thanks JM, but I thought that you could not apply more than once? I should not have a problem with a Brazilian address (looking to buy when I get there),e tambem falo Portugues bastante bem. Vivei em Angola e Mozambique! Muito obrigado, David.

    Brazil Flight Info

Gatwick - Lisbon - Salvador return £565. (Same price to Heathrow - I choice Gatwick on outward leg as it doesn't mean a 4+ hour wait at Lisbon) Best thing is very generous luggage allowance - 2 pieces of hold luggage with a maximum weight per item of 23 kgs. David.

Easiest way to get a CPF from abroad

Waiting for CPF I applied at the Brazilian Consulate in London on September 3rd and was told that it should take 8 weeks and I could track the progress online. According to the website my application has still not arrived in Brazil - I think someone ate the snail! More frustrating is that the...

    Opening a bank account

Hsbc Hi Frank_London, Thank you for this - my bank is First Direct, which is part of HSBC so hopefully they can help. I have told them I am going to Brazil, but they didn't mention this, just that the new Visa Debit cards would work over there (my Maestro didn't!) Regards, Dave.

    Opening a bank account

Hi all, I have been looking through old posts to see if I can find current info, but everything seems to be from 2007 concerning this. As I posted before I intend to move to Brazil (Bahia) in November - I have applied for my CPF (at the Br consulate in London 5 weeks ago and it still has not...
