Is the South of England becoming more affordable?

Recent falls in house prices in the south of England have been covered in great detail by the press. While there is still a North/South divide it does seem to be narrowing? Is it time to look at property investments in the south of England or might there be further downside?

In theory in relative terms the south is maybe now a little cheaper than the north compared to 12 months ago. However, the massive gap built up over the years means we are looking at 2 different markets here. The London/SW property market and the rest of the UK.

In relative terms but I dont think it will fall enough to make a major difference for the majority of first time buyers.
