With a portable online career where should I live?

Hello everyone,
I am currently traveling around Southeast Asia and also working over the web running web sites. This effectively means I can live anyway where I can get a reasonably fast web connection.

I am from the UK but thinking of buying some real estate somewhere to be my second home. I am thinking of somewhere in Europe, as it would be nice to be bearing my family.

So where do I go. I guess I am looking for somewhere with a strong expat community that is easy to integrate into. Also friendly locals as well. I would be willing to learn the language as well.

I have also thought about further field but I need somewhere stable where I can purchase an apartment - in my opinion this takes out most of the cheaper areas of the World such as Southeast Asia, South America.

Also I have to consider my Visa status in that country. This makes the EU thing a lot easier.
