The Lake Palace Hotel, India


The Lake Palace Hotel is situated on a natural foundation of rocks in Lake Pichola, Udaipur, India. It was originally known as Jag Niwas and was built in 1743-1746. It has been named one of the most romantic hotels in the world with its scenic views and luxury suites. It is a luxury hotel that has a total of 83 rooms and suites.

This hotel has its own means of transport; it operates a speed boat from the City Palace to the hotel. The backdrop of this magnificent hotel is the Aravalli Mountains which adds to the magic feel of this building. There are many different experiences to be had while visiting The Lake Palace Hotel including an outstanding customer service. You can also be accompanied by a butler on a shopping trip to take in all the sights of the city.

History

The Lake Palace Hotel was built in 1743 – 1746 and was placed so that it faced east so the people living there could pray to Surya as soon as the sun came up. The Surya is the Hindu Sun God. It was built as a summer palace for the royalty of Udaipur and after that the hotel was used as a summer retreat for the descendants of Jagat Singh. Made from white marble, the hotel was constructed by Maharana Jai Singh II in 1746.
