Restrictions as a US citizen

A relative originally from DE who emigrated to the US now wants to go back to Germany for personal reasons. The relative is US and german citizen. What has to be kept in mind when buying in Germany. Are there any taxes or restrictions?

Hi,

There are no special taxes or fees for foreigners. Depending on where wants to buy in Germany there is a land transfer fee of 3.5 - 5 % of the purchase price as well as annual property taxes, which are generally low in Germany. You also have the notary costs of 2% of the price, but these are costs for Germans as well as foreigners...no difference.
