To be honest, I'd have thought that if purchasing a property through a respected or well established estate agent, along with using a reliable solicitor / conveyancer, then you should be in safe hands and the legal side will hopefully all be investigated and be confirmed as legit before you part with any / too many funds

As Barney says, if you use a reputable lawyer who will check out the property for you there should not be a problem.

When you have chosen a specialist to advertise your property they will request that you sign to an office arrangement. This is a legitimately restricting contract and you ought to counsel your Lawyer before sign it. Your operator must suggest that you get lawful exhortation before sign to an organization arrangement. Ensure you utilize a decent Lawyer furthermore check with Land Registry that the individual you are purchasing from is the legitimate proprietor .

Surely if you check through the official channels and use trustworthy qualified legal representatives then you should avoid any scams. Perhaps this is one of the occasions where paying for advice will cover you in the future if the development does turn out to be a scam. Surely lawyers and advises would-be in some way liable for your losses if they have waved through an investment opportunity which turned out to be fraudulent?
