Bank of England adviser recommends property investment

The Bank of England’s chief economist, Andy Haldane, has courted significant controversy this weekend by suggesting that “property is better bet than a pension”. While the Bank of England itself is morally obliged to maintain a neutral position on any public investment advice, this particular comment has certainly caught the attention of the mass media.

Well, well, well, somebody in the higher echelons of the Bank of England actually talking sense! The authorities have made pension fund so complicated that it is no surprise that people are looking towards straight property purchases as their pension funds of the future.

This seems like a very good and a very sensible call to me. Perhaps if all our politicians were as honest we would not be in the financial mess we see ourselves in today?

Is this really word for word what Andy Haldane said? I find it strange that he would be so specific as he is effectively giving investment advice.
