Trying to gauge prices here. How do old, in-need-of-renovation apartments compare price wise in Istanbul to other up-and-coming European cities in the region (I'm thinking Bucharest, Prague, Budapest etc...). Thinking about something central - Taksim, Sultanhamet etc

There are laws regulating where you can drill a borehole, but looking around it seems they are widely ignored. I'd ask around in the nearest town - someone will undoubtedly know someone who can drill a poço.

Also, consider the investment potential. Croatia is almost certainly due to enter the EU within the next few years. That should boost the market.

If you can speak Portuguese then maybe Portugal should be an option :confused: Anywhere on the Algarve and your husband will have no problem finding English people to talk to. The Silver Coast north of Lisbon is cheaper and also becoming popular with foreign buyers.

Berlin definitely has great potential - it's probably the most undervalued market in Europe and Germany has a strong rental culture. That generally means good tenants and high occupancy.
