You can look at the short-term prospects, you can look at the local headlines but in reality any property market is based upon the long-term potential for the area. If the area is booming this will attract businesses which will attract a new workforce who will spend in the local economy - leading to something of a self-fulfilling prophecy because a more buoyant economy attracts yet more businesses which attracts more workers, etc.

Buyers and plenty of them! Joking aside, economics, the risk/reward ratio and perhaps more importantly investor sentiment are the main elements of any property market.

This is very simple really, long-term prospects. If you are a long-term investor and you are brave enough to ride the short to medium-term highs and lows, the long-term prospects of property markets such as the UK are still extremely positive.
