Investment in Scottish hotels is under scrutiny tonight with news that Edinburgh Council is looking to introduce a so-called “tourism tax” expected to raise around £15 million a year. I am not quite sure how Edinburgh City Council can justify an additional tax on hotel charges? Surely between the hotel companies and the general public there is more than enough tax income for the authorities? This smells of opportunism to me…
